Vispring proudly unveiled the fruits of its collaboration with Swedish designer, Monica Forster, at the Wallpaper* Handmade exhibition at this year’s Salone del Mobile in Milan.
Wallpaper*, the international design magazine, approached Vispring to be part of its annual Handmade Project – an exhibition that celebrates the marriage of craftsmanship and design through customisation. The team from Wallpaper* partnered Vispring with Monica Forster, a designer who is internationally renowned for her contemporary projects, characterised by a strong sense of pure form, mixed with a curiosity for new materials and technologies.
Following her research into Vispring’s process of hand-craftsmanship, and with the brief to incorporate the company’s signature honeycomb nested, individually-pocketed springs, Monica created a design that manipulated the mattress to create an elegant, free-standing chaise lounge with a unique character and form.
Developed and made by hand in our Devon factory, the chaise lounge was manufactured in the same way we typically produce our mattresses, with the addition of a wooden frame to support the curves of the chaise lounge.
From design to production, the process took eight weeks and when the chaise lounge was revealed at Salone del Mobile, it was exceptionally well-received. Magali Castillo, Vispring’s global marketing director, commented: “The Wallpaper* Handmade Project, and the exquisite chaise lounge that Monica Forster designed, perfectly illustrates the beauty of creating products by hand. Our craftsmen aren’t bound by the capabilities of machines and so are free to make completely bespoke pieces to fit any design brief. We couldn’t be more proud of the end result.”
The Handmade exhibition runs until 13 April at the pavilions of the Fiera di Rho.
