The Plymouth Story. In 1971, Vispring opened a new factory in Plymouth, following a post–World War II government subsidy scheme designed to stimulate regional growth and employment. A brand-new plant was established on the edge of Ernesettle, overlooking the river that divides Devon and Cornwall, the River Tamar. Originally, the factory produced only the signature individual pocket spring components for which Vispring was and still are renowned. Before long, mattress production followed, and the company relocated its entire operation from its Willesden factory in London to Plymouth, establishing a proud new chapter in British bedmaking. #ThePlymouthStory #Vispring #BritishCraftsmanship #LuxuryMattresses
Vispring 1960, is the name of artist Cash Aspeek's exhibition that was showcased in a selection of art galleries across London. The work addresses ageing and a couple's lifelong commitment. Cash reminisces, "it happened, one day, that my mum asked me to take their mattress to the recycling tip. [...] I could not take this historic item imbued with so much meaning to the tip. As an artist I decided to explore it’s many facets and parts instead. [...] I wanted to capture the longevity of their marriage, the care and commitment they both held for each other.2 Both were hung as part of Deptford X 2022/3, in Deptford Lounge, Giffin Square, London.
